Our Mission:
We seek to create new interdisciplinary learning opportunities in nanoscale
science, engineering and technology for scientists, students, teachers,
and the general community. We also aim to integrate the academic and professional
success of science and engineering students with researchers in the CNSI
community. Who Participates?
Our education programs include K12 students and teachers, community college
students and faculty, university undergraduates and graduate students,
industrial partners, and researchers and faculty from CNSI-represented
departments. Our Programs:
CAlifornia nanosystems institute StUdent organized Lecture Series (CASUALS) - Graduate students host CNSI seminar speakers Expanding Pathways in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (EPSEM) - CNSI educators and researchers create opportunities to promote successful transfer of community college science and engineering students to UCSB. Internships in Nanosystems Science, Engineering and Technology (INSET) - Faculty, graduate students and post docs supervise summer research internships for California community college students. Let's Explore Applied Physical Science (LEAPS) - UCSB undergrad and grads work regularly with Grade 8 Physical Science and Grade 9 Physics teachers to bring new science curriculum and hands on activities to local classrooms and after school clubs. RETnetwork - CNSI educators work with Research Experience for Teachers (RET) site managers to collaborate with teachers and mentor scientists and sponsor national conferences for Research Experience for Teachers (RET) participants (http://www.retnetwork.org/)
