My project deals with attempting to couple an optical emitter into an optical cavity. We hope to do so by using a semi-conductor. In this process, we are hoping to make AlOx distributive Bragg reflector (DBR) mirrors.

The purpose of our project is to come up with a new method to transfer data. Eventually, we hope to be able to encode bits of information on a single photon. This is interesting and useful in society because we will be able to create secure data transfer. These single photons can be used to create unbreakable codes. The codes will not only be ridiculously hard to break, but the receiver will also be able to know if someone has tried to view the message.
